Visa Requirements for Thailand

Thailand welcomes millions of travelers from across the globe every year. Indian citizens require a visa for Thailand. Depending on the duration of their stay, Indian nationals can obtain a visa on arrival or take advantage of a visa exemption.

Exploring Thailand has become even more convenient for Indian travelers. Thanks to the visa-free entry scheme, Indian nationals can now visit Thailand and stay for up to 60 days without the need for a visa, making it easier than ever to experience the beauty and charm of this remarkable country.

Types of Thailand Visas

Indians must obtain a visa to enter Thailand. Depending on the purpose and duration, options such as a Business Visa, Tourist Visa, or Visa on Arrival are granted at the discretion of the Thai Embassy. However, certain exceptions and visa exemption schemes are available, allowing eligible travelers to enter Thailand without a visa for a specified period.

Thailand Business Visa

A Thailand Business Visa, or Non-Immigrant B Visa, is required for foreign nationals traveling to Thailand for work or business activities. It can be issued for multiple entries, with each stay limited to 90 days. For frequent business travelers, a one-year multiple-entry visa is also available, allowing more flexible and convenient access.

Documents Required:

  • Original passport valid for at least six months with a minimum of 2 blank pages.
  • The passport should have been issued less than 10 years ago.
  • Filled and signed application form.
  • Two recent photos in the size of 3.5×4.5cm with a white background.
  • A covering letter signed by the company with the name as per the passport, duration, purpose of travel, and passport details.
  • For self-employed/business, the covering letter must be on the company’s letterhead.
  • An invitation letter from the invitee company with passport details, travel reason, and the date of travel.
  • Confirmed hotel voucher and return tickets.
  • Travel insurance.
  • Bank statement of six months (must be original and attested by the bank) with equivalent minimum current balance of USD 700 per person.
  • IT returns for the last three years.
  • Last 3 months’ salary slips.

Thailand  Tourist  Visa

Travelers planning a leisure trip to Thailand must obtain a Thailand Tourist Visa to enter the country. However, Indian citizens can now enjoy visa-free entry for tourism for up to 60 days. This applies to both single-entry and multiple-entry tourist visas, allowing a 60-day stay upon arrival, with an option to extend for 30 days if needed.

To apply for a Thailand Tourist Visa, you’ll need a valid passport with a minimum of six months of validity, an application form, and proof of sufficient funds. The application and supporting documents can be submitted to the Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate in your country or through an authorized visa processing center. You can apply in person or by mail, making the process convenient and accessible.

Documents Required:

  • Original Passport: Valid for at least 6 months, has a minimum of 2 blank pages, and was issued within the last 10 years.
  • Visa Application Form: Duly completed and signed by the applicant.
  • Photographs: Two recent photos (3.5 x 4.5 cm) with a white background.
  • Covering Letter: Must be signed by the applicant and include their name (as per the passport), duration, purpose of the trip, and passport details.

           1. For self-employed or business owners, the covering letter must be on the company’s letterhead.

  • Leave Letter: From the employer (if applicable).
  • Return Flight Tickets: Confirmed itinerary required.
  • Hotel Booking: Confirmed accommodation voucher.
  • Bank Statement: The latest 6 months’ statement (original and attested by the bank) with a minimum balance equivalent to USD 700 per person or USD 1,400 per family.
  • Income Documents: The last 3 months’ salary slips and Income Tax Returns.
  • For Minors:

               1. Sponsorship Letter with details of expenses.

              2.Parental Authorization letter if traveling alone.

Electronic Visa-on-Arrival

An Electronic Visa on Arrival (eVOA) is a convenient process that allows eligible travelers to apply for and secure their visa online before departure, with the actual visa issued upon arrival. This differs from a traditional Visa on Arrival, which must be applied for and granted in person at the immigration counter.

Documents Required:

  • Clear copy of the passport, with at least two blank pages available.
  • The passport must have been issued within the last 10 years.
  • Two recent passport-sized photographs with a white background, ensuring 80% face visibility.
  • Confirmed flight tickets and hotel booking.
  • Covering letter and invitation letter.
  • Copies of Aadhaar and PAN cards.

Thailand Visa-on-arrival

For Indian citizens, Thailand offers a Visa on Arrival (VOA) option for short visits of up to 15 days, primarily for tourism. This can be obtained at designated entry points upon arrival, as long as travelers meet the eligibility requirements and have the necessary documents.

Documents Required:

  • Clear copy of the passport, with at least two blank pages available.
  • The passport must have been issued within the last 10 years.
  • Two recent passport-sized photographs with a white background, showing 80% of the face.
  • Confirmed flight tickets and hotel booking

Thailand Visa for Indians:

Indians can now enjoy visa-free entry to Thailand for tourism or business for up to 60 days. However, from May 1, 2025, all travelers — including Indians — must obtain a Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) before arrival. The TDAC is an online application that needs to be completed at least three days before the date of entry.

Thailand Visa Issuance:

For Indian citizens visiting Thailand for tourism, a visa is not required for stays of up to 30 days. This visa exemption is valid until November 11, 2024. For more extended stays or other travel purposes, a visa is required. Indian passport holders can apply for a 60-day tourist visa in advance at a Thai Embassy or Consulate, or opt for a Visa on Arrival. Additionally, Thailand will launch an e-Visa system for Indian travelers starting January 1, 2025.

Thailand Tourist Visa:
The processing time varies depending on the completeness of the application and other related factors. Typically, it takes anywhere from a few business days to several weeks.
Thailand e-Visa on Arrival (eVOA):
The processing time for a Thailand eVOA depends on the application volume and processing efficiency. It is generally completed within a few business days. However, it’s recommended to apply early before your travel date.
